Mobile Ad Revenue Coming From Interstitials

By Bilal Amed

Recently, the Chinese company AppFlood released a detailed report on Android mobile advertising. They gathered data from more than 400 million smartphones around the world. While their global data may not provide an accurate picture of the Android market in every region, it's extremely informative. According to their report, the majority of the ad revenue that's being generated comes from interstitials. This includes videos and some types of rich media content. This category makes up a whipping 70% of global ad revenue.

The interstitials category wasn't fully separated from other categories. AppFlood also had a category entirely for rich media, and their data showed that it's steadily gaining. It's looking like video and rich media content is truly the future of mobile advertising.

Video advertising has gradually improved in recent years, especially on websites such as YouTube. The ability to rank a YouTube video on the Internet is much simpler than it has been in the past, which means that more advertisers are using this type of medium in order to generate additional sales.

Interstitial ads are a great way of engaging users since you do not have to compete for their attention with the content they were trying to access. These ads allow you to get the full attention of your audience for a few seconds. You can engage your audience with an original video or create a full page ad with rich content. This represents a higher investment than purchasing adds that will be displayed as part of a web page but you should generate more revenues.

AppFlood found a great deal of interesting information in their report, and it's worth reading in its entirety. If you're interested in mobile advertising and its future, it provides a wealth of information. It will be interesting to see how their findings will change in the future. It seems like video and rich media are only going to grow.

A recent report from AppFlood showed that 70% of app-ad revenues were generated by interstitial content. This number is based on data gather from 400 billions Android Smartphones. The study was conducted by a China-based company and it is possible that variations exist for a Western audience but the importance of interstitial content should not be denied. What are interstitials? Interstitials refer to content that is displayed 'in-between' two actions. For instance, a page with an ad can be displayed between the moment a user clicks on a link and between the moment the user can access the page they wanted to navigate to.
