Do It Yourself Air Compressor Service

By Debra Cooley

A device that can convert power into kinetic energy by pressurizing and compressing the air is called an air compressor. The air can be released in quick bursts on command. There are several reasons and causes about any damage sustained by the device. What is fortunate is that the repair process, either at home or by an air compressor service, is easily done.

A repair service will no doubt cost a lot more because as far as labor and parts go, it runs on practically hundreds of dollars. Most people, if they could, would rather do things by themselves before going to a professional. Note that there are a few important things to remember.

Check the essentials, first and foremost. Know that there are times when the problem is centered on the small fact that power is simply lacking. Perhaps a power surge was responsible for damaging it temporarily. There is actually a reset button to help in the fixing of this particular dilemma.

Power troubles are also caused by the occasional low oil level. The essentials must be checked before proceeding any further. It may seem like an easy solution for some, but there are those that take it a bit too far. They end up dismantling it completely even though all they could have done was reset it.

Do not forget to use your ears on this one. Air compressors have this tendency to make a lot of noise. However, note that there is indeed a very distinct difference between healthy sounding noises and noises that flat out indicate damage. This may be among the most important steps to take during the repair.

Start it up and then perhaps allow it to run for a little bit. As this happens, pay attention to whatever sound it makes as it goes along. Take note when the sound is louder, and take note when it is normal. Those may be certain signs that can help you diagnose the problem in itself. Knocking sounds when the engine is one is unusual too.

It may be something that is very simple and should not cause too much trouble during the repairs like a loose belt guard. Sometimes it could be very damaging and will be a bit more difficult to fix. An example would be a broken rod bearing. Should there be any cause for concern, open it up and take a look.

After identifying the problem, the special toolkit that can be bought at most hardware stores is needed before opening it all up. The kit can contain just about any tool one may need to get the job done. Open the device and look out for leaks and loose parts as well.

Preparations have to be made in order for you to become a hundred percent capable of doing this on your own. If you cannot, then fee free to employ an air compressor service. All in all, just be sure to treat the device with as much respect and care so that you will not make a habit out of fixing it.
