Discovering Disney World Hotels And History Of Parks

By Frances Kelly

Officially, the Disney World Resort and Theme park complex is known as Walt Disney Resort. The complex in Lake Buena Vista and Bay Lake Florida is situated near Orlando, Florida and host several disney world hotels. While originally built and owned by Walt's company, the complex now has a new owner.

Currently, the resort plays home to an outdoor shopping complex, a number of entertainment venues, a camping resort, several golf courses and nine hotels which are not owned by the company. While this is the case, there are 27 themed resort hotels, 2 water parks and 4 theme parks, all of which are owned by the resort.

In the original plans, the resort was to be a supplement to that of Disneyland in California. In the early phase, the area was planned to be a community and village where people could live and play. As such, it was the intention to build a place which would provide a separate and unique identity to that of the California parks.

EPCOT, is often considered one of the main highlights at the Florida resort. For, visitors can go around the world while never leaving the park. In addition, visitors can also take a step into the future. For, that was the vision Walt had when building the Experimental Prototype of Tomorrow. As a result, it is also one of the most visited parks in the complex.

While this is the case, it took extensive lobbying to the Government of Florida before the Reedy Creek Improvement district was constructed and developed. As part of the agreement, Disney gained the rights to be an autonomous incorporated city. While this was the case, Walt passed away before work began on the construction of the city. After which, the company began creating a resort similar to that of the park in California.

The company later abandoned the earlier concepts for a planned village and community. After which, Magic Kingdom was the first theme park to open in 1971. Later, Epcot was built in 1982, Hollywood Studios in 1989 and Animal Kingdom, the most recent in 1998. The newest attraction is that of the Star Wars Experience, complete with costumes, characters, games and rides related to the film enterprise.

Currently, the resort continues to be one of the most popular attractions in America. With millions in attendance each year, the resort remains a destination for vacationers, corporations, schools and others. As such, it has become a staple with regards to American culture.

A number of long distance travelers prefer to stay at the on-site hotels. For, most offer free transportation between hotel and airport and park entrances. In addition, there are all-inclusive packages which also include park admission and other benefits such as dining passes and all you can drink glasses.

While this is the case, travelers can also find a number other hotels in the vicinity, some which will also provide shuttles to and from the airport and parks. As such, the value of these all-inclusive packages can often be great for corporations, schools and families. Whereas, individuals, especially those whom are members of AARP or AAA, may want to opt for staying at a local non-Disney hotel. For, there are often discounts from these organizations with regards to hotel stay and park admission whether purchasing a one-day, one-park or multi-day, multi-park ticket.
