The Everyday Life Of A Dancer

By Marissa Velazquez

The everyday life of a dancer is pretty much the same no matter what style is being used. Despite the hard work that has to be done in order to achieve a certain level of success, many still pursue their dream of dancing professionally. This is due to the fact that the rewards outweigh all of the discipline that one has to endure. Here is a look at a typical day in the life of a ballet dancer.

The right way to start any day when dancing professionally is to attend a warm up class. This usually takes an hour or so and involves doing some basic exercises and stretches. If this is not done, one can end up with an injury which could affect their career. If one is taking part in a show that is taking place, they have to rehearse everyday.

Rehearsals can last for four to six hours and sometimes even longer. A person usually has a schedule showing them the different time slots for the show they are rehearsing for. If there are other dancers who are injured, the schedule can change so one has to always check to make sure they have the right time.

Injuries are common in the world of dance as it is also in the world of sports. This results in others having to fill the shoes of the person who has been injured. There are studio rehearsals and there are the stage rehearsals. The performers first go to the studio rehearsals where the space is smaller and various scenes are worked on.

The stage rehearsal is done in the area where the performance will take place. One will be looking at empty seats which will later be filled with lots of people. There is also live music that one has to practice too because it sounds different from what one hears on a sound system. There are also sets that one has to work which create the atmosphere for the show.

The work of practicing for shows for six days out of the week can take a toll on the body. This why one can always find a physiotherapist in the same location. They help to solve any problems one might have from the mild sprain to something more serious. One also has to take care of themselves in order to make the most of their working experience.

If one is to have the energy to move the body constantly for several hours, one has to make sure to stay away from foods that makes one tired and weak. This includes foods high in sugar and processed foods. One should eat whole foods as much as possible and should also get enough sleep to keep one's body healthy.

The everyday life of a dancer is one of dedication, and delivering the best one has to offer to the public. This is not something that one can do on occasion and expect to get results. One has to be willing to train everyday in order to get results and reap the rewards of their efforts.
