Design Your Own Custom Hunting Knives Texas

By Christopher Young

Hunting gear can be easily found at any sports and outdoors store, and you will have lots of weapons available to you. No matter if you are a crossbow kind of person or rather use a rifle to hunt, custom hunting knives Texas are a necessary tool in addition to your primary weapon. You will need it for a variety of reasons, from skinning to protection.

When you choose to make a custom knife, you get to choose from two main body styles. The first is a folding one, in which the blade literally folds into the handle to make it small and compact. The other main type is a static blade, where there is no folding, so the blade is usually larger and not hollow at all. They are great for field dressing your prey.

When you go to make your custom knife, you will also need to decide how long you want the blade to be. Decide what you want to use it for, which helps you determine what length you should go with. Keep in mind that while really large blades look cool, they also cost more since more materials are being used, so only get the length you really need.

Speaking of materials, that is the next big decision you have to make. There are many materials to choose from. One of the most popular is stainless steel, because it is lightweight and relatively inexpensive compared to other options. Plus, it does not rust, so it can be used in any type of weather. You can also choose ceramic, carbon steel, or other special materials as well.

The handle length is another decision you have to make. Most of this will be based on how large the hand of the recipient is, but extra length can also be added to make the overall length even longer. For folding knives, the length is going to largely depend on how long of a blade you want.

The handle is what a lot of people first notice, especially for folding blades. That is why you want an attractive one that is also very durable. To achieve this, choose a color you like, and perhaps also a pattern. The material you use will have to be decided as well. You can choose from hard plastics, wood, metal or even animal bones if you are so inclined.

Personalizing knives goes beyond what they are made of. You can also optionally choose to get an inscription on the handle or blade as well. Some people like to put a name on there, or a short gift message. Some like to get a favorite quote on there, just make sure it is short enough to fit the length of the knife.

Another option is to have a custom cover made, which is sometimes called a sheath. Like the rest of the knife, you will have lots of options, including material, colors and more. Leather works really well and lasts a long time, but plastic such as vinyl or even heavy canvas are also great, affordable options. Ask your artisan and they will point you in the right direction.
