Getting Started With Email Marketing: Tips For Success

By Anitra McHargue

When you are getting started with email marketing, you may be unfamiliar with some of the conventions of the trade. There are methods for handling email marketing in a professional manner that will assure the happiness of the customers and have them anticipating each email you send them. Read this article to find out how you can get your customers' attention.

Do not depend upon graphics-heavy emails in your campaign. Graphics can take a long time to load which may discourage some users from viewing the e-mail. As well, emails that are heavily laden with graphics are often seen as junk or spam mail by email programs, meaning your email could land in a junk folder very easily.

Email marketing is about getting people to buy your products. Every email you send should be focused on making your readers want to buy something from you. You can do this by writing an email that offers information on a new product, that expounds unexpected benefits of an old product or that promotes a special new promotion.

To get the most of your email marketing, invest in a program that personalizes your emails with every customer's given name instead of a generic greeting. Ensuring that every email starts with the recipient's name is key to encouraging your customers to see your newsletters as valuable information and not just more sales spam.

Try engaging the customer using the subject line of the email. Your email must grab your reader's attention the minute it lands inside of their inbox, otherwise it may go into their trash. If you have a weak or uninteresting subject line, that is exactly what will happen. So try spicing up your subject line with some creativity.

It is important that your friendly form line is one that your subscribers will recognize. For example, do not have the CEO of your company sending the emails. The reader may not know who it is from and just delete the email. In the subject line, put your business's name.

Focus on a single message per email you send out. Don't try to cram a whole bunch of topics into a single email.Too much information can lead to the recipient not reading over everything carefully and possibly just tossing the message. Have an informative4 subject line and the gist of your topic in the email to get them to read it.

In addition to using email marketing, incorporate SMS marketing into your campaign. Have customers sign up for an SMS option and send them text messages when on the go. When these two methods are used together, you have a better chance of getting more customers to sign up for your product.

Automatically unsubscribe customers who don't respond to your marketing materials after a certain number of emails. If your customers aren't responding to your emails anymore, they most likely have lost interest in your newsletter but aren't annoyed enough by it yet to unsubscribe. By unsubscribing them, you avoid generating bad feelings that could hurt your business.

If you follow the above suggestions, you can create a marketing campaign that is professional and appropriate. If you do not practice good customer service, you will see that you will lose customers and people unsubscribing from your email list. Use this advice so that you have satisfied customers that will keep coming back.
