3 Important Rules For Commercial Debt Collection

By Robert Sutter

I believe that just about any strong line of work is going to have rules to follow and the world of commercial debt collection is no exception. In fact, you may be surprised by what you can pick up on with the best knowledge at hand. That being said, what are some of the most important guidelines as far as this line of work is concerned? You may soon start to see just how important this work is if you are able to keep these 3 rules in mind.

1. When it comes to the element of time, there is a specific stretch to consider. Keep in mind that there are only such appropriate times when contact between two or more parties can be done here. Communication, in this field, can only be done between the hours of 8 AM to 9 PM. This is just one layer of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and you can be certain that many others exist, too, if you are willing to look into this field of work.

2. You cannot utilize deceit in order to attain a payment and I believe that there are many reasons for this. For example, what if a collector contacted you, stating that they would be able to arrest you upon failure of payment? This could not be anything short of a lie, especially when you consider that collectors do not have the authority to go about such an action. Only those who have been trained and certified in law enforcement could go about such a process.

3. When it comes to commercial debt collection, there is a strong level of restriction when it comes to embarrassing media. For those of you who do not know what this entails, keep in mind the idea of post cards, which is just one example. A collector can't contact a debtor through this way. If you are curious as to what agencies along the lines of Rapid Recovery utilize, telephone and email are some of the most common methods brought into practice, as they are reliable.

To say that there are many rules to consider in any line of work would be an understatement. However, I feel as though this is especially true in terms of commercial debt collection. There are so many rules to consider that this list can only be considered something of an intro. A whole litany of other guidelines are worth looking into, especially if you find yourself involved in such a scenario and want to make the most out of this field as possible in the long term.
